Welcome to the Kanata Rhythmic Sportive Gymnastics Club!

The Kanata Rhythmic Sportive Gymnastics Club welcomes new and returning members to our new session. This information will help you prepare for the exciting season ahead.

About the sport - Rhythmic Sportive Gymnastics is one of the most beautiful and precise of Olympic sports. It is a combination of the dynamics and flexibility of gymnastics, the technical knowledge of ballet, and the self-expression and rhythm of modern dance. The sport is unmatched for grace, beauty, and flexibility, with each move choreographed to music while the gymnast performs with rope, hoop, ball, clubs, or ribbon. The benefits of Rhythmic Gymnastics to girls in their formative years include physical fitness, positive discipline and self-esteem, lasting friendships, team skills, fun, and a healthy lifestyle that will remain with the gymnast for life.

About the club - The Kanata Rhythmic Sportive Gymnastics Club is the longest-running club of its kind in Eastern Ontario, with over 30 years of quality rhythmic gymnastics. It is a non-profit, community organization run by volunteers. The club offers a variety of programs to suit the interests and skill levels of all members. All KRSG coaches are certified by Gymnastics Ontario through the NCCP program. We have approximately 80 recreational gymnasts and over 60 advanced training (Provincial and InterClub) gymnasts.

At the recreational level, girls age 4 and older are introduced to the techniques and movements of the sport and its apparatus. The club’s "I've Got Rhythm!" skill development program features a 6 level badge program with personal progress reports and a badge evaluation event at which all eligible gymnasts demonstrate their skills for families and evaluators.

Gymnasts at the recreational level who desire more intensive training and performance opportunities may join the recreational performance class. This class trains 2 hours a week and works on advanced skills and choreographed routines in addition to performing at club run events.

Recreational gymnasts who show an exceptional aptitude and ability for the sport can also audition for the advanced training program. Auditions are held each year in late June. Advanced gymnasts compete at the InterClub and Provincial levels as individuals, small groups and aesthetic groups competitions throughout Ontario and Quebec. Our recreational program is the basis for all of these opportunities!

The InterClub program is designed for girls who want to perform, compete and are interested in more intensive training but don't have the time or commitment to a full time provincial training schedule. This program is also offered for gymnast as a first step into the competitive level of rhythmic gymnastics.

The Provincial program is designed for gymnast with above average strength, flexibility and independence who want to compete in competitions on the provincial level. This program requires substantial commitment and dedication from the gymnast and their parents.

About the coaches - The KRSG Club is proud of the coaching staff it has built over the years, and the secret of the club's success has been directly related to the high quality of individuals instructing the girls in the recreational, interclub and provincial ranks. Our coaching staff is certified under the National Coach Certification Program.

Key Events - In November, the club will hold a Gymathon as a special recreational, interclub and provincial fundraising event.

A recreational session consists of 30 one-hour classes running from September to June, with a break in the middle for the holiday season. The fall session focuses on skills development to qualify for badges: the winter session focuses on developing skills that are in a routine, which is performed at Gymnaestrada in the spring. The spring session consolidates and develops skills to qualify for badges. In addition, the girls are invited to come and see the Provincial and InterClub gymnasts perform at various competitions held in Kanata in the winter and spring. Read about these and other club events on our website at www.krsg.org and in club newsletters.

What you need to get - All equipment is provided at the recreational level. Although no footwear or legwear is required, each gymnast needs a red, long-sleeved, lycra or cotton body suit (with scooped neck). This can be purchased at one of the following locations:

Malabar Limited
1610 Merivale Road, Nepean
225-8374
  Brio DanceXpress
380 Richmond Road, Nepean
721-1585

Classes - The coaches prefer that the girls have their hair pinned back in a bun or a ponytail for all classes. Class lists and any special schedule adjustments will be distributed once classes begin. Please drop your daughter off 5 minutes early and pick her up promptly so that classes can begin and end on time. We recommend that young gymnasts use the washroom facilities just prior to the start of class to avoid disruptions mid-class.

Cancellation/Refund Policy - Cancellations received by the program coordinator before the third class are eligible for a partial refund. The refund consists of the original amount paid - less an administration fee, Gymnastics Ontario Registration Fee, and fee per class attended. No refunds are provided for cancellations for gymnasts registering for the 6 week spring session.
