 RECREATIONAL PROGRAM

Rhythmic Sportive Gymnastics is one of the most beautiful and precise of Olympic sports. It is a combination of the dynamics and flexibility of gymnastics, the technical knowledge of ballet and the self-expression and rhythm of modern dance. Hand-eye coordination and body movement are developed through the use of equipment such as rope, hoop, ball, clubs or ribbons. Routines are choreographed to music and are performed either individually or in groups. The benefits of rhythmic gymnastics to girls in their formative years include physical fitness, positive discipline, self-esteem, lasting friendships, team skills, fun and a healthy lifestyle that will remain with the gymnast for life.

The Kanata Rhythmic Sportive Gymnastics Club is one of the longest established gymnastics clubs in Canada, with over 30 years of quality gymnastics experience. It is registered with Gymnastics Ontario and is a non-profit, community organization run by volunteers. The club offers a variety of programs to suit the interests and skill levels of all members from age 4 to adult.

At the recreational level, girls age 4 and older are introduced to the techniques and movements of the sport and its apparatus. The club's "I've Got Rhythm!" skill development program features a 6 level badge program with personal progress reports and a badge evaluation event at which all eligible gymnasts demonstrate their skills for families and evaluators.

Gymnasts at the recreational level who desire more intensive training and performance opportunities may join the recreational performance class. This class trains 2 hours a week and works on advanced skills and choreographed routines in addition to performing at club ran events.

Recreational gymnasts who show an exceptional aptitude and ability for the sport can also audition for the advanced training program. Auditions are held each year in late June.

Advanced training gymnasts compete at the InterClub and Provincial levels as individuals, small groups and aesthetic groups at the Provincial Championships, Aesthetic Group (AGG) Red Ribbon and invitational competitions throughout Ontario and Quebec. Our advanced gymnasts may also have opportunities to perform at the Ontario Winter Games and the Canadian and World Gymnaestradas.

Our recreational program is the basis for all of these opportunities!
