2006 KANATA CUP INVITATIONAL WAS A GREAT SUCCESS

The weekend of February 18-19, 2006 marked the 12th annual Kanata Cup Invitational Rhythmic Gymnastics competition, which was hosted by the Kanata Rhythmic Sportive Gymnastics Club. The event attracted 72 gymnasts from six clubs in Ontario and Quebec. The club was privileged to have Gordon O'Connor, Minister of Defence and MP for Carleton-Mississippi Mills present at the awards ceremony on Sunday.

This year's Kanata Cup celebrated the 31st anniversary of the KRSG Club. Dasa Lelli, who remains the Head Coach, founded the club in 1975.

The fifteen gymnasts from the Kanata RSG Club gave strong performances at the Competition, winning twenty-one gold, eight silver and five bronze medals, for a total of thirty-four medals.

In Group competition, the Kanata Junior Duo won GOLD in their category. The Interclub Kanata Duo won GOLD in their category.

In Level 1B, Marie won SILVER overall after winning one SILVER and one BRONZE in her routines.

In Level 2A, Sarah won GOLD overall after winning one GOLD and one SILVER with her routines.

In Level 2B, Zoë won GOLD in all three categories, free, ball and overall.

In Level 3A, Megan won GOLD overall after winning two GOLD with her routines.
                   Myranda won SILVER overall after winning SILVER and BRONZE with her routines.
                   Jenna was fifth overall and placed fifth in both routines.

In Level 4A, Lauren won SILVER overall after winning SILVER in her two routines.
                   Lucinda came fourth overall after winning a BRONZE medal with her free routine.
                   Christine came tenth overall after competing courageously in her free and ball routines.

In Level 5A, Emily won GOLD overall after winning two GOLD and one SILVER with her routines.
                   Caitlin won 4th place overall after a very competitive performance, winning a BRONZE in her free routine.

In Level 5B, Breanna won GOLD overall and also GOLD in each of her three routines.

In Level 6A, Jennifer won GOLD overall and also GOLD in each of her three routines.

The team of VIAGYM from Montreal, Quebec, won the Kanata Cup Overall Team Trophy.

The competition was held at Bridlewood Elementary School, located at 63 Bluegrass Drive in Kanata.
