KRSG's Youngest Individual Gymnast Wins Two Gold Medals In First Provincial Qualifier

Marie finished first overall in the First Qualifying Meet of the year held in Toronto on March 31 and April 1. Gymnasts compete to qualify for a berth in the Ontario Provincial Championships, which will be held in Ottawa on June 2-3.

Marie placed fourth in the 2A category for her free routine, then impressed the judges with the flawless execution of her energetic rope routine, to win the gold medal. Her combined scores won Marie the top spot overall, putting her in an excellent position to qualify for the Provincial Championships. The next qualifying meet will be held in Toronto in May 5-6. Marie's mother Noella commented, "Marie continues to enjoy gymnastics and has formed excellent friendships. We are very proud of her results in Toronto."

Other exciting results for the Kanata Rhythmic Sportive Gymnastics Club included a gold medal for Caitlin in the 5A category. Caitlin won the gold medal for her beautifully executed ribbon routine. She also won fourth place for her free and her rope routine which earned her the bronze medal in the overall competition. Also in Level 5A team mate Lauren earned 7th place in rope, 8th in free and ribbon and 8th overall.

In the 5B category, Brianna won a silver medal for her ribbon routine and placed 9th in Ball, 7th in hoop and 5th overall.

In the 5C category Breanna won a bronze medal for her ball routine and placed 7th in clubs, 7th in rope and 5th overall. Breanna teamed up with Emily to win the silver medal for their Senior rope duo.

All of Kanata's 10 and 11 year old gymnasts currently hold a qualifying position in their crowded and demanding categories. Jenna and Christine competed in the 4A category, while Megan, Myranda and Lucinda competed in the 4B category. Myranda brought home a 4th place ribbon for her ball routine and Megan won 8th place for her free routine and 8th overall.

Myranda and Megan teamed up as the Kanata MnM's and won a bronze medal for their Novice duo/trio ball routine, while Christine and Lucinda teamed up as the Kanata Lucky Charms and won 5th place.

Sarah and Zoë competed with spirit, determination and grace in the 3A and 3B categories respectively.

While Marie is the youngest individual competitor from KRSG, the club has an Aesthetic Group of gymnasts who range in age from 7 to 9. This was the first Provincial qualifying meet for all these gymnasts and they brought home the bronze medal for their graceful and synchronized performance.

All of these gymnasts will perform at KRSGs Spring Gymnaestrada, which will showcase Kanata's recreational rhythmic gymnasts, on Thursday, April 5th at 7pm at Sacred Heart High School in Stittsville.
